- October 2023: This Fall we kicked off our new Family Grocery Study! Check out the Buffalo News link above to learn more about this new partnership. We would also like to extend a warm welcome to new staff members Adrianna Calabro and Izzy Fernando, who will be working on the Grocery and Restaurant Studies. Finally, this month several HABLAB team members traveled to the ObesityWeek conference in Dallas, Texas. PhD student Sara Tauriello presented her pilot test of a new dietary intervention for preschoolers which focuses on positive parent-child interactions and veggie tastings. MPH student and staff member Juliana Goldsmith presented effects of our Baby Sleep program on early infant sleep. We also enjoyed attending presentations from many leaders in the field.
- Summer 2023: We are grateful to the summer interns and research assistants who joined our team this summer and contributed to all of our ongoing projects. Check out our newsletter on the home page for more information about our summer team and many more updates from this summer. Recent publications from the team include an article describing links between daily activities, stress, and sleep among adults during the COVID-19 pandemic, which comes from former undergraduate research assistant Callista Zayatz's honors thesis. Also newly published is our article describing feasibility and acceptability of our UB Grocery Shopping Study, led by Dr. Kelseanna Hollis-Hansen. Hearing about participants' experiences with our studies and programs is an important part of the learning process that helps us refine programs for the future, in an effort to make them a great fit with families' preferences and lifestyles.
- May 2023: New research from the HABLAB team includes a research article led by PhD student Sara Tauriello, reviewing recent studies linking temperament to feeding, eating, and weight, and an article by Dr. Anzman-Frasca and several prior HABLAB staff and students evaluating effects of a winter hiking intervention on activity choices and well-being.
- Spring 2023: It's been a busy Spring semester in the HABLAB, with highlights including several conference presentations by former and current student research assistants. Hope White led the preparation of a poster with preliminary findings from the Play With Me Study, which was presented at the Society for Research in Child Development in March. Kenzie Swanson presented data from the UB Grocery Study at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Science's Research Day in April, and two HABLAB seniors, Opeyemi Ibitayo and Olivia Hopko, culminated their independent research projects with poster presentations at UB's Celebration of Academic Excellence on April 26th. Opeyemi also presented her research at the 5th annual University at Buffalo Ingestive Behavior Research Day in May, as did team members Dr. Ferrante and Juliana Goldsmith. More information about each of these presentations can be found in the Gallery tab. We would also like to thank and acknowledge research assistants who will be departing our team after this Spring semester, all of whom will be graduating soon. Thank you Opeyemi, Olivia, Hannah M., and Devyani. We wish you the best of luck and can't wait to hear all about your future accomplishments.
- November 2022: Several HABLAB team members traveled to the ObesityWeek conference in San Diego this month! Dr. Mackenzie Ferrante presented research on remote food photography in restaurants and on our grocery shopping intervention's impacts on families, and former undergraduate research assistants Hannah Anderson and Callista Zayatz presented research from the independent projects that they completed as seniors. See the Gallery tab for photos and more information on their projects. This month, results from our lab's UB Grocery Shopping Study were also published in the journal Obesity, supporting the potential for "healthy default" online grocery shopping carts to increase the nutritional quality of grocery purchases.
- Fall 2022: This semester marks 6 years on the team for Sara Tauriello! Sara also led a new publication about effects of the INSIGHT responsive parenting intervention on parent and child behavior during middle childhood. Congrats! This Fall also marked 1 year in the lab for undergraduate research assistants Bradley Rao, Opeyemi Ibitayo, Vaishali Gupta, and Olivia Hopko. Other happenings this Fall included several new research assistants joining the team (see Team tab). The team was also able to gather outdoors for a team breakfast before the weather become cold. See the Gallery tab for a pic.
- Summer 2022: July 2022 marked 2 years on the team for Dr. Mackenzie Ferrante, and August 2022 marked 4 years on the team for Juliana Goldsmith, who is currently a Research Support Specialist and MPH student. Kayla Smart also joined our team this summer as a new Research Support Specialist. We are happy you're here! For more updates, check out the HABLAB Summer 2022 Newsletter.
